Blog and top Reviews of the film HIDDEN FIGURES, about American women who helped the Apollo II mission take human kind to the moon.

Best Films of 2017 - Hidden Figures, by Director Theodore Melfi, tops the list

One of the best films to watch about people who stood up for social change is the 2017 film,  HIDDEN FIGURES, directed by Theodore Melfi.  Nominated for an Oscar and released in late December 2016, it's a long film that speaks of racial tension in America, beaurocratic hierachy, gender inequality and life in the mid-south in the volatile sixties. It involves a story line of how getting an Astronaut to orbit the earth - and later to the moon - required letting go of anything that stood in the way of teamwork, brilliance, new technology, traditional math and innovative maths.

The story goes that Theodore Melfi gave up directing Spiderman to direct HIDDEN FIGURES

Featuring the story of three courageous, change agent women working at NASA in the 1960s and beyond, HIDDEN FIGURES is a must see film.

Moving, poignant, inspirational and haunting, if there was ever a film that reminded us ALL of our responsibilities to try to change prejudice, racism, injustice and gender inequality perceptions, this is it.

This film is a clear winner in the 2017-2018 category of FILMS TO REMIND US OF OUR RESPONSIBILITY to be change agents, and the power of individuals to change the minds of racists and bigots, however long it takes.

ROTTEN TOMATOES REVIEW OF HIDDEN FIGURES Film - Directed by Theodore Melfi

While watching the film, one who is over the age of 50 wouldn't help but recollect the significance of what we now take for granted: space travel, human rights and daily fights for justice.  And one will continue to be sad that some ingrained prejudices and views about gender equality die hard, or not at all, across America and other countries.

This is one of those films that will STAY with you for days, weeks and years to come.  Allow 3 hours.

Gender Diversity in Film

And what of the "Inclusion Clause" as heard in the Oscar speech by Frances McDormand?

Who's got the best diversity in terms of gender (not necessarily other forms of diversity) on their Corporate Board? We like AANA.

A 50% gender equality Board (in 2016) although the numbers have changed slightly (one less board member shown on their website when accessed on 8/03/2018 - International Women's Day.

Gender Diversity in Boards & The PAY GAP

We're here to remind everyone that unless effective ACTION is taken to equalise position and pay (reducing the paygap), females will continue to be subjected to violence and harm.
